The mayor of a city near Odessa was arrested for negotiations with Russia - he is threatened with execution.
Ukrainian security forces detained the leadership of the city of Yuzhny, Odessa region, for collaborating with the Russian military.
Anton Gerashchenko, advisor to the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, wrote about this in his blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Gerashchenko threatens to shoot officials who agreed to cooperate with the Russian military and maintain peace in their cities.
“The mayor of Yuzhny, Mr. Bryukhanov, his deputy, the head of the local district police department and the local inspector were detained under Article 111 of the Criminal Code “High Treason.” This is for those who still have not understood that we are at war and that negotiations with the enemy are possible! We will not allow a single centimeter of our land to be surrendered. These are not just words. The military warns that by detaining them they showed loyalty. Quote: “They will shoot on the spot,” Gerashchenko said.
It seems that the Ukrainian security forces were afraid that Yuzhny would repeat the fate of Kupyansk in the Kharkov region, whose mayor managed to preserve the infrastructure and the lives of civilians by agreeing to transfer the city under the control of Russian peacekeepers:
“The sound approach of the mayor of Kupyansk. He ensured peace and order in the city by starting cooperation with the Russian army. And everything is quiet and calm, there are no casualties, no destruction. I recommend that all mayors do the same,” comments political scientist Vladimir Kornilov.
