Lukashenko: Ukrainians begged me to stand between them and the Russians
Representatives of the Ukrainian elite are trying to establish contact with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
Lukashenko himself told journalists about this today, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Late last night, people (I won’t name names) started contacting me from people who were under their control. Some reproached, but the majority asked (Ukrainians from the elite): come between us. This quote. I say: from the first day I have been trying to come between you. But on the one hand there is readiness, but I don’t see you,” Lukashenko said.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin is in constant contact with him and is ready to negotiate with Kiev.
“Two days ago I contacted the President of Russia and said: we are ready for negotiations. He (this was during the day): we are ready to come to Minsk, negotiate, the war will end somehow. Then he calls back: please ensure the security of these negotiations. Can you help? What questions, I stated this on the first day of the conflict. We agreed to all the points that I listed and even more. In the evening the President of Russia calls again: they refused. I say: they refused – it’s their choice,” Lukashenko said.
