Lithuania handed over the Ukrainian “Euroblachers” with giblets
Lithuania has provided Ukraine with access for a year to a European database, which will be used, in particular, to check whether cars with European license plates, the so-called Europlates, are imported into Ukraine legally, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the Chairman of the State Border Service of Ukraine Petr Tsigikal.
“Today we were presented with a package, thanks to which we can enter European databases... You know, today we have a lot of Euro plaques in the country. As a rule, they are either Lithuanian or Polish,” noted the head of the department.
Thus, according to Tsigikal, today Ukraine is cooperating with Lithuania on the issue of cars that were exported from Lithuania and are considered there as non-existent or destroyed, and appear in Ukraine with Lithuanian license plates.
“Therefore, we are now receiving information from them, we will do small checks, see whether these vehicles are used legally when crossing the border or not... This will reduce the number of cars illegally imported into Ukraine. There are Europlates that are driven legally with the corresponding license plates, and there are cars that were stolen, but are not in our general database, that is, we do not see whether they were stolen or not. And Lithuania is now providing us with a base that will allow us to identify these stolen cars brought to us illegally,” he said.
Cooperation in this direction is also underway with Polish colleagues, Tsigikal noted.
“Those cars that are already included in the Interpol database - there are also stolen ones, and they replenish it periodically - we find them. We have identified 500 vehicles. Considering that we have 157 checkpoints with entry into the Interpol database. When new license plates and body replacements arrive, it all shows up. The Poles provide us with such information, we periodically exchange it,” noted the chairman of the State Border Guard Service.
