Crimean investors can get their money back twice: in Russia and Ukraine
Moscow – Simferopol, April 25 (Navigator, Mikhail Shtamm) – Due to a conflict between Ukrainian banks and the Russian Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), Crimean depositors may be able to get their money back twice: in Russia and in Ukraine.

The Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) summed up the first results of accepting applications from Crimean depositors. On the first day, depositors of Privatbank, Imexbank, Kievan Rus Bank and VAB submitted 2960 applications, the most from Privatbank clients - 1639 applications. Kommersant reports this.
However, none of the four listed banks, despite persuasion to share information about depositors in electronic form, at least in a simplified manner, did this. According to the newspaper, electronic information about depositors is not transmitted either in the form of registers or in any other form, which significantly complicates the analysis of the situation. There is only paper data in Crimean offices abandoned by Ukrainian banks.
“We consider the situation around the bank and the work of the so-called fund as a raider takeover,” the press service of Privatbank told Kommersant. “Of course, the bank does not cooperate with the invaders.” The call centers of the banks Kievan Rus, VAB and Imexbank informed Kommersant that they do not cooperate with the Russian fund for the protection of depositors in Crimea.
Meanwhile, these banks intend to offer Crimean clients service on the territory of Ukraine. “We stopped working in Crimea due to the lack of Ukrainian legislation in this regard, but as soon as it appears, we will resume servicing Crimean clients and issuing deposits to them - at least on the territory of Ukraine,” the bank’s call center said. Kievan Rus". VAB announced a special promotion for Crimean clients, called “Loyalty Marathon - Crimea”. The point of the promotion is that until May 5, all Crimean clients can submit applications and transfer to service in Kyiv, where they can receive their deposits in full. Imexbank reported that they are now taking inventory of the accounts of Crimean clients, and after May 15, Crimean clients will be able to be serviced and receive deposits at any branch in Ukraine. And the press service of Privatbank reported that on the territory of Ukraine, access to their funds can be obtained by clients who have left Crimea for permanent residence in other regions of Ukraine or do not actually reside in Crimea.
It turns out that in the absence of information interaction between Ukrainian banks and the Russian fund, Crimeans can claim their deposits twice: both in Crimea and in Ukraine, writes Kommersant. However, it is unlikely that Crimean investors will take advantage of this loophole en masse, if only because entry into Ukraine is difficult. Last week, Ukraine introduced restrictions on entry into the country for Russian males aged 16 to 60 years.
