Moscow - Simferopol, September 1 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The command to limit the power supply to Crimea by 70% was given to stop a likely assault on Mariupol by the DPR militia. A source close to the Ukrainian government told a Navigator correspondent about this.

The decision to turn off electricity to Crimea on the evening of August 31 was made by the Ministry of Energy in agreement with members of the National Security and Defense Council and the headquarters of the Anti-Terrorist Operation of Ukraine, the source said. “You know that the situation around Mariupol is serious, there are tanks on the approaches to the city,” he explained. “Yesterday a patrol boat there was fired upon. We decided to show Russia that it is also vulnerable and we can also cause damage to it.”
The Navigator’s interlocutor recalled Kyiv’s awareness that Crimea is critically dependent on electricity and food supplies from Ukraine. “I think this is not the last shutdown (of Crimea - Navigator note),” he said. “In the fall, given the energy balance that has changed due to the war, we will have something to do with excess electricity.”
Let us remind you that a power outage on the peninsula occurred at approximately 23:00 Moscow time on Sunday. Large cities were left without electricity - Kerch, Koktebel, Yalta, Sevastopol and some environs of Simferopol. Krymenergo then stated that this happened due to restrictions on the supply of electricity from Ukraine. Now power supply has been completely restored in Crimea.
