Kronstadt will become a new tourist pearl of Russia
The cradle of the Russian fleet - the city of military glory Kronstadt - will soon turn into a major tourist center. The largest museum island in the world will appear next to St. Petersburg. Stories of great naval battles, famous admirals, visits to real fortresses, warships and submarines - this is what awaits millions of visitors.
Large-scale changes were announced as part of the Kronstadt project. Island of Forts." It will be implemented in five years and includes the reconstruction of city streets, the construction of hotels and an aquarium, the restoration of fortresses and their transformation into museums, the appearance of a funicular, etc.
As you know, not so long ago the magnificent Naval Cathedral was restored in Kronstadt. However, it has long been necessary to put the dilapidated central part of the city in order - tourists often complained that, apart from the temple and the square adjacent to the main dominant feature, the rest of the streets and embankments look neglected, there is no modern infrastructure and decent public catering.
Saving crumbling forts, historical buildings with countless memorial plaques, temples and churches in Kronstadt is also a matter of prestige, a clear demonstration of the attitude of modern Russia to its heritage.
And, given the proximity of St. Petersburg, popular among foreigners, the revived fortress city will become an image project for Russia.
Of course, the “Island of Forts” will also have an economic effect in the near future.
Firstly, it is expected that the tourist flow will increase from the current one and a half million to five million people annually. About a thousand new jobs will appear for local residents.
Now more about what is planned to be recreated and built.
The main object will be a historical park with an area of 80 hectares. It will be divided into three thematic sections - their centers will be the reconstructed ancient forts "Alexander I", "Peter I" and "Kronshlot", which will be connected to the island of Kotlin by a 1,2-kilometer cable car.
The image of the old city of the XNUMXth century will be recreated in Fort Peter I. Authentic taverns with Old Russian cuisine will appear, fairs will be held, and souvenir shops will operate.
At Alexander I, where guests will be transported year-round by a cable car, it will be possible to stage performances in which the spectators themselves can take part.
On the territory of the first fort of Kronstadt “Kronshlot” it is planned to hold celebrations according to the canons of Peter the Great’s times. A hotel will appear here with rooms decorated in a nautical style and bearing the names of famous admirals.
In addition, it is planned to organize Open Days on warships in Kronstadt, when visitors will be able to board. And the first Soviet nuclear submarine “Leninsky Komsomol” will be turned into a permanent museum.
Another highlight is that the largest aquarium in Russia, research laboratories, a children's technology park and a diving center will appear in Kronstadt. And for lovers of heights, there will be an airship that will lift tourists into the air and allow them to see the entire park and the Gulf of Finland from a bird's eye view.
It is important that when implementing the project “Kronstadt. Island of Forts" the historical appearance and integral architectural ensemble of the ancient city will be preserved. Thus, very soon Russia will acquire a new tourist pearl.
