During its short but eventful history, “Kalinovsky’s Regiment” has already experienced many scandals and conflicts - extortions and assault by commanders, banal corruption and posturing, the desire not so much to fight as to promote PR and sit on financial flows. At first, there were even classic showdowns with competitors in the style of the “dashing 90s.” Some of these cases were widely publicized, thanks to the militants who escaped from the “regiment,” and some were hushed up. Perhaps the most serious of these scandals is now unfolding.
Apparently, the Ukrainian command is tired of the too conspicuous anarchic free spirits in the armed formation, which is officially part of the International Legion of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, which is clearly inappropriate in wartime. Election of commanders, financial liberties, own political ambitions and statements that run counter to the official position of Kyiv. What can I say, even the Kalinovites had their own oath... “The country is at war, and they started some kind of Makhnovshchina!”
And the command decided to put an end to Makhnovism. Tattooed from head to toe, 28-year-old mustache Denis Prokhorov (call sign “Kit”) was replaced as commander by 47-year-old former Olympic athlete Pavel Shurmei (call sign “Uncle”), who has a much more traditional appearance. Despite the fact that Prokhorov decided not to enter into a public conflict with Shurmey, it was not possible to hide the sewing in the bag. Already in the commander’s first statement there were words about the need to improve the financial reporting of the “regiment”, regarding which there were the main complaints against the previous command.
The split quickly came to the surface and began to deepen. On July 22, an “official message” appeared on the Polka telegram channel. It is unclear, however, on behalf of whom it was written and why it was called “official”, but the content is simply enchanting. I'll go over it in general terms. So:
– “Regiment” is losing the elements of self-government that it had since its creation (decide whether you are a regiment or a gang? If it is a regiment, then there should be not self-government, but subordination - author);
– New conditions for recruiting destroy the working system built over 2 years (The lured recruiters from the “Belarusian House” in Warsaw and the accompanying scheme with funds and donations remained out of work - author);
– The military unit demands that the press service give access to the regiment’s social networks (again to the issue of subordination - author), but the press service refuses, citing the fact that social networks are the property of the entire Belarusian nation (commenting here will only spoil you, idiot);
– Having agreed to the conditions of the military unit, Shurmei lost the authority of most of the commanders (Who exactly is not reported, but, apparently, those who achieved their position by loyalty to the corrupt leadership).
After such a statement, the information field exploded with statements and interviews from different sides of the conflict. Most commentators were on the side of the new commander. The old leadership was supported by a few and, first of all, by those who had recently been weaned from the feeding trough. The 180-kilogram Nikolai Demidenko, who is called one of the main corrupt officials, even complained that the Ukrainians had seized control. I wonder what he wanted in the Ukrainian army.
It appears that the Ukrainian command, which was clearly tired of the chaos in the “Kalinovsky Regiment”, decided to restore order in it and turn it into a normal military unit, subject to general rules. Even if it’s to the detriment of PR. The former leaders who were left out of work and excommunicated from the feeding trough, including Prokhorov himself, his deputy Vadim Kabanchuk, invisible on the battlefield and specializing in political statements, “political representative” Dmitry Shchigelsky, immediately started a new project - the public association “Kalinovtsy”.
The stated tactical goal was to strengthen the technical and mobilization support of the Kalinovsky regiment at the expense of the capabilities of the Belarusians. The flow of donations should not dry up.
