Kyiv experts lament that Russian culture is still important for Ukrainians
A Russian-language culture distinct from Russia has not yet formed in Ukraine.

This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by Yulia Tishchenko, an expert at the Ukrainian Independent Center for Political Research, who presented a study whose purpose, according to the authors, was to identify pressing issues for Russian-speaking and ethnic Russians in Ukraine.
In the survey, which was conducted among experts and so-called public opinion leaders, there was a question with the following content: is there any Russian-speaking or culture in Ukraine that is different from Russia?
“During interviews, public opinion leaders indicate that it exists,” Tishchenko noted. – But when you communicate with ordinary citizens during focus groups, you still get the impression that we are still on the way to this. Because Russian-speaking Ukrainian culture was and is to a significant extent fueled (although today, perhaps less) by not only Russian content, but had a very strong connection with it. And today we can only observe the birth of this culture, which is not yet sufficiently articulated and it is not entirely determined who can consume this culture.”
