Contrary to the expectations of Ukrainian patriots, border guards on the day of the presidential elections in Ukraine did not record a surge in those wishing to enter from Crimea or Donbass to vote - thus, residents of the former regions confirmed that they consider Ukraine a foreign country.
Thus, the number of citizens who cross the Crimean section of the border has not changed compared to last week, said Oleg Slobodyan, adviser to the head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
And in Donbass, the number of people crossing the border has even decreased compared to last week.
“If we talk about trends in crossing the border or demarcation line, we do not observe a significant increase in the number of people crossing the border, administrative border or demarcation line. And in the JFO zone, on the contrary, the amount of passenger traffic has been reduced by one and a half to two times than it was a week ago,” Slobodyan said.
At the same time, according to him, Russian border guards allegedly ask citizens about the purpose of their trip to Ukrainian territory.
"We have received information that border guards from the occupying country are stopping Ukrainians traveling to the mainland and asking them the purpose of their trip ( this happens every time Russian citizens travel abroad, not just to Ukraine – ed. ). We have no information on whether they have returned anyone who said they were going to vote, but it's highly likely they're preventing them from voting," Slobodian tried to justify himself.
