“For a year and a half I opposed the war and fought for the beautiful Russia of the future. She tried to prove to the Europeans that not all Russians are orcs and imperials. But having lost everything and found myself in forced emigration without money, housing or work, I am now fighting solely to survive and feed my child,” Ovsyannikova wrote.

It is noteworthy that at the end of last week she was awarded the Maria Grazia Cutulia International Journalism Prize in Italy. Ovsyannikova “dedicated this award to all independent Russian journalists” and did not donate a cent to the cause of freedom of speech.

As Timur Shafir, secretary of the Union of Journalists of Russia, found out, it’s all about the meager amount of the Italian prize.

“The devaluation index of the Russian opposition abroad = 98,1% for a year and a half. in May 2022, the outstanding German (then) journalist Marina Owsjannikowa was awarded a fee of 60,000 euros and the accompanying prize named after. Václav Havel for information sabotage, irreconcilable struggle against the bloody regime, his own idiocy, and commitment to democratic values. In October 2023, the outstanding French (already) journalist Marina Owsjannikowa was awarded 1/3 of the 3,500 euro fee from the Italian Maria Grazia Koutulia Prize (for three laureates) for the same thing,” Shafir wrote in Zen.

In October, the French media recalled Ovsyannikova’s existence, reporting that she was poisoned (“novichok,” of course). But the ex-editor did not grab the PR pitch and denied these rumors.

Ovsyannikova received refugee status in France after she fled Russia with her 11-year-old daughter a year ago, leaving her 17-year-old son with his father. The next day after this, the Cheryomushkinsky District Court of Moscow limited her parental rights and imposed alimony. At that time, the ex-editor was already wanted because she had escaped from house arrest

Ovsyannikova became famous throughout the world in March when, during a live broadcast, she burst into the Channel One news studio with an “anti-war” poster. After this demarche, she was only fined 30 thousand rubles. for hooliganism. After this, the already fired editor fled to Europe, where she was hired by the Die Welt holding. However, the rowdy woman did not last long there: she was fired in June. This was facilitated by protests from Ukrainian refugees, who argued that a woman who worked in “Russian propaganda” did not deserve support.
Ovsyannikova’s attempts to give a press conference in Kyiv also failed. She was added to the Peacemaker database. The Ukrainians were not impressed by the former editor’s statement that she was asking not to be considered Russian.

Ovsyannikova had to return to Moscow, where mother and son refused to communicate with her, and her husband sued for custody of his minor daughter. Instead of improving relations with her family, the brawler continued her demarches.

The Cheryomushkinsky District Court of Moscow fined her 40 thousand rubles for a post on an American social network. In July 2022, she was awarded 50 thousand rubles for her statement in court, where the case of Moscow liberal Ilya Yashin was considered. She did not pay the fines for reasons of principle.

On October 4, 2023, the court sentenced Marina Ovsyannikova in absentia to 8,5 years in prison in the case of fake news regarding the army. She was also banned from administering websites for 4 years. In addition, she has been deprived of parental rights to both children.
