Chaos in Ukraine is becoming uncontrollable

The corruption scandal surrounding the purchase by Petro Poroshenko’s entourage of smuggled components for the army in Russia, the subsequent storming of the presidential administration and election rally by National Corps militants, clashes with the police - all this indicates that the scenario of controlled chaos in Ukraine is getting out of control.

One of the instigators of Euromaidan, former journalist and now Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Nayem, discusses this in his blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“As a result of the clashes, dozens of police officers were injured, several members of the National Corps were arrested, and criminal proceedings were initiated against them.

Many perceived this as a kind of trolling of the president by Arsen Avakov. The fact is that the leader of the National Corps, Andrey Biletsky, is a police lieutenant colonel, former commander of the Azov regiment, which is part of the National Guard of Ukraine, which belongs to the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In addition, in 2014 he was a member of the military council of the Popular Front.

But, despite this, the clashes in Kyiv and Cherkassy are a challenge not only to Petro Poroshenko, but also to Arsen Avakov himself and the leadership of the National Police. Avakov and Poroshenko are excellent at calculating scenarios, but in this case they clearly overestimated their influence and capabilities, obviously exposing themselves, their subordinates, and the state as a whole.

Just two facts.

1. Did Arsen Avakov know about the upcoming actions of the National Corps in Kyiv and Cherkassy? Of course I did. Its' his job. Just as the entire leadership of the National Police knew about it. They knew when they would come, where they would come and approximately how many people. Everyone knew and understood everything perfectly well, but did not know how it could end and what the consequences would be. They were confident that chaos and protest could be controlled.

2. Did Petro Poroshenko know that his friend, partner and subordinate Oleg Gladkovsky was involved in theft schemes at Ukroboronprom. Of course I did. Because that's his job. Just as the GPU and the SBU knew about it, as Yuriy Lutsenko never tires of repeating. They knew who was involved, where the smuggling came from and how much ended up in their pockets. But they didn’t think that journalists would write about it and that it would lead to protests. They were confident that the deriban could be controlled.

We miscalculated. Happens. But the price of this “miscalculation” is another spit in the face of law enforcement agencies and another kick to the country and the state as a whole.

Well, the most important thing. I think this will not be the last such incident in the coming months. More than one group will try to take advantage of the confrontation between the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Only now in the regions, where over the course of four years many formal and informal structures in uniform have emerged, with the right to use force and special means,” Nayem shares his concerns.
