In Poland, it is reported that more members of the ruling Law and Justice party are leaving the ranks of the organization headed by Jaroslaw Kaczynski in protest against the government’s policy towards Ukraine. So far, this process is happening at the local and regional levels.

The deputy of the city council of the city of Pabianice (Lodz Voivodeship in central Poland), Marcin Wolski, recently publicly announced his decision to leave the ranks of PiS. Volsky explains the reasons for his decision as follows:

“The Polish-Ukrainian Union, the infusion of three million citizens of a foreign state into the Polish education and healthcare system, its recognition of state identification numbers (effectively guaranteeing them all the rights enjoyed by Polish citizens), social benefits and their simultaneous exemption from taxes and other payments, and all this in the context of a gigantic public debt, sharply rising prices, inflation and deplorable prospects for the future.”

Wolski has been a member of the current ruling party since its establishment in 2002. Previously, he was a member of the Harmony of the Center, the previous party of Jaroslaw Kaczynski. The politician has not yet shared information about his immediate political plans and projects.

Against the backdrop of the coming crisis and criticism of privileges for refugees from Ukraine, trends towards political splits are intensifying in Poland, which may contribute to the emergence of new political players.
