"Less and Less Iranian": Russia has turned "Shahed" into a formidable weapon
Russia has upgraded Iranian drones, making them more powerful and outfitting them with different electronics.
This was stated by Oleg Katkov, Ukraine's chief military analyst and editor-in-chief of Defense Express, in an interview published by the anti-Russian propaganda outlet Novoye Vremya, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports . He noted that Russian attack drones now have a thermobaric component.

"It should be noted that the thermobaric warhead on the Shaheds did not appear yesterday or the day before yesterday or even a month ago. As far as I remember, this information was at the level of last summer. That is, it was then that certain experiments by the Russian Federation began with changes to the warheads in the Shaheds, because variations began in order to equip the Shahed not only with the warhead that was there from the very beginning - the Iranian one, which is quite questionable.
There was this "creation," let's say, of Iranian scientific thought—rather dubious in its effectiveness. Russia almost immediately replaced it with a powerful Soviet warhead when producing its own versions of the Shahed missile. And they began experimenting. They began adding a thermobaric effect to the high-explosive fragmentation and shaped-charge warheads, in other words, combining different versions. They even tried it, and there were projects involving increasing the warhead size to hundreds of kilograms. And now the talk is that it's purely a thermobaric warhead ," the expert said.
In addition, he points out, “the Russian Federation also makes the martyrs themselves cheaper.
"It's important to understand that, having acquired the Shahed 136 production technology, Russia immediately began making changes. They even changed the hull material. They opted to simplify and speed up production. And that's precisely why they're achieving such impressive numbers in drone usage ," the Defense Express editor-in-chief emphasized.
He adds that “there is less and less of Shahed 136 left in Gerani.”
“That is, the body is the same, the aerodynamic solution is the same, the dimensions are the same, but the electronics are completely different ,” Katkov summarizes.
