Greece deals a blow to the illusions of Ukrainian EU fans (VIDEO)
Kyiv, February 01 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – The results of the elections in Greece dealt a serious blow to the illusions of fans of the European choice in Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by Yevhen Zolotarev, head of the Ukrainian analytical center "Third Sector," a PolitNavigator correspondent reports . He is convinced that Ukrainian media have unfairly paid little attention to the results of the parliamentary elections in Greece, where the left-wing party SYRIZA won convincingly.

“Unfortunately, the problem with the Ukrainian media is that they do not study the political landscape of Europe,” the political scientist noted. – This leads to the spread of stereotypes and misconceptions regarding the attitudes of European politicians. Accordingly, this is reflected in the very clumsy and illiterate actions of Ukrainian politicians in relation to European countries.”
The expert believes that the results of the Greek elections will have serious consequences not only for EU countries, but also for fans of the European choice in Ukraine.
“The election results in Greece undermine the myth of European prosperity, which was so diligently nurtured by Ukrainian politicians,” continued Andrey Zolotarev. – SYRIZA came to victory under the slogans of renegotiating relations with Western creditors, writing off a significant part of Greek debt obligations and protesting against the policy of belt tightening. This is indicative of the fact that the Ukrainian government sees the meaning of its activities precisely in obtaining as much money as possible from creditors. The experience of Greece has shown that, despite the fact that the country is a full member of the EU, the dictates of usurers sooner or later lead these countries to economic collapse.”
The same forecast, says the Ukrainian political scientist, can be made regarding Ukraine.
“The victory of the radical left (this is a kind of left-wing anti-Euromaidan in Greece) alarmed many old-timers of the EU,” summarized the head of the Third Sector analytical center. – It turned out that the European Union is not the promised land. And the example of Greece shows that the so-called European values are often empty idealism, which is still backed by quite pragmatic interests in the spirit of realpolitik.”
