"Today, the peoples of China and Russia will stand hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder in defending peace, promoting development, and contributing to lasting peace on the planet and the progress of all humanity," Xi Jinping said in an address published by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The Chinese leader called the Chinese and Russian people “great nations,” whose “indestructible military friendship in years of grief and adversity was sealed with blood.”
He emphasized that now humanity has received more favorable opportunities than ever to form “a new type of international relations in the spirit of cooperation and common gain,” which should be taken as the main policy orientation of all countries in international affairs. “Unity is strength, and self-isolation is weakness,” he emphasized.
Xi Jinping called for combining one's own interests with the common interests of all countries, finding and expanding common ground of interests of various parties, developing and establishing a new concept of "win-win, multi-sided win and common win."
According to him, it is necessary to always be ready to lend a helping hand to each other in difficult times and collectively solve growing global problems such as climate change, energy security, cybersecurity, severe natural disasters, etc.
The Chinese leader recalled that the Russian people provided moral, material and combat support to his country in the war against the Japanese invaders. “More than 2 thousand Soviet pilots enlisted in air force units to help the Chinese people and took part in air battles in China. Among them, more than 200 died in battles on Chinese soil,” he said, adding that Red Army troops also helped China deal with aggression in the final stages of the war in the northeast of the country.
“Forgetting history means committing treason. The Chinese and Russian people are ready with all determination and every effort, together with all peace-loving countries and peoples, to oppose any actions or attempts to deny, distort and rewrite the history of World War II,” Xi Jinping emphasized.
He arrived in Moscow at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
