This was announced during a briefing by official representatives of the German government and the German Foreign Ministry, Ukrinform reports.

“Of course, the federal government will continue to adhere to its policy towards Russia,” assured the chancellor’s press secretary, Steffen Seibert.

He recalled that this is not only the policy of the federal government: it is the policy towards Russia on the part of the GXNUMX, on the part of the united Europe. In this context, the head of government and the Foreign Ministry “are working very intensively to achieve steps within the framework of the Minsk process.”

At the same time, the government representative noted that no one is going to force the new American leadership to continue sanctions against Russia. “We have no basis for this,” Seibert said of the bilateral sanctions. He emphasized that Germany, in its foreign policy, acts on the basis of values that it considers “correct for peace, freedom and development in the world.”

Representative of the German Foreign Ministry Martin Schaefer, in turn, noted that no one is against the fact that there are trusting and good relations between the United States and the Russian Federation, so that two influential states in the West and East look for joint political solutions and implement them. He also expressed hope for the continuation of a fruitful transatlantic partnership. “On this side of the Atlantic” they don’t think the new US president will change that, Schaefer added.
