Germany is not going to transfer cruise missiles to Ukraine – Pistorius
Germany does not allow Ukraine to use the transferred weapons and equipment for attacks on Russian territory.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated this on the DW television channel during his visit to Indonesia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
At the same time, Pistorius emphasized that he considers Ukraine competent to carry out such attacks.
“I fully trust our Ukrainian partners, and I always emphasize that international law allows Ukraine to do this. On the other hand, we, Germany and, for example, the United States, have also always emphasized that we do not want our weapons to be used to cross the Russian border.
So that's the difference between the positions. But I am absolutely confident that Ukraine is a reliable partner, and I have no signals to the contrary, but the problem remains.”
The Minister of Defense avoided answering why it is possible to attack Russia with drones supplied by the West, but not with airplanes.
“We shouldn't pay too much attention to this issue. Now is not the time or place here in Indonesia to talk about what is possible now and what is not,” the minister added.
He stressed that his country is not discussing the transfer of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, similar to the Storm Shadow, which have already been transferred by the UK.
“At the moment, no, and we’re not really thinking about it,” Pistorius concluded.
