Federal subordination of Sevastopol is entirely justified, - Russian politician
Giving Sevastopol, along with both Russian capitals, the status of a city of federal significance is natural and is explained by the importance of the city for the Russian Federation.

Russian politician and writer Yevgeny Starikov stated this in an interview with the weekly “New Crimea”.
He recalled that the city needed a special status back in the middle of the XNUMXth century:
“Dissatisfied with the timing of the restoration of Sevastopol, and we know that during the Great Patriotic War the city was completely destroyed, Stalin changed subordination in order to, in a sense, personally control the timing of the restoration of the city. This, of course, gave the recovery a completely different pace. Therefore, we see that the change in subordination played the role of a kind of tool for solving problems,” the expert noted.
In his opinion, today the federal subordination of Sevastopol is also a certain toolkit for solving the problems facing the country:
“Sevastopol, Moscow and St. Petersburg are very important for Russia. Because what happens in these cities today affects the entire country. As for Sevastopol, it seems to me that there is no need to even explain what we are talking about. Moscow is the capital. Therefore, any attempts to destabilize the situation take place in Moscow. The second city for attempts to shake the situation is the “northern capital”. It seems to me that today the management structure of Sevastopol, in principle, corresponds to the tasks that the Russian authorities set for themselves,” Nikolai Starikov is sure.
