European slap in the face of Poroshenko
Brussels’ refusal, at the request of the Netherlands, to include in the final statement following the results of the last Ukraine-EU summit a phrase recognizing Kiev’s European aspirations is explained by the fact that the European Union has already squeezed everything it could out of Kiev and is not going to make any more concessions.

The president of the Center for System Analysis, Rostislav Ishchenko, told Moskovsky Komsomolets about this.
“Since the moment the people of Holland spoke out in a referendum against the European Union concluding an association agreement with Ukraine, nothing has changed. Therefore, Amsterdam, both then and now, opposes the points that Kyiv has any prospects for membership in the European community. There was no need for the Ukrainian authorities to stand rigidly on maintaining this position in the final statement of the summit. All the same, these words have found their way there in one form or another over the past 10 years. One could safely rely on previous documents. Poroshenko, apparently, needed another confirmation that the whole world supports Ukraine,” the political scientist said.
“But this verbal gift could not be achieved, since the European Union has already squeezed everything it could out of Ukraine, and there is no point in making any more concessions. In addition, the West has long been accustomed to the fact that Ukrainian diplomats impose worthless formulations on their partners, which are subsequently used to drag them into the “integration swamp,” Ishchenko added.
