"Another four years of nightmare plus police terror" – Moldovan politician on Sandu's "victory"
Due to the polarized nature of the Moldovan parliamentary elections, Maia Sandu's ruling party was effectively spared the burden of justifying itself for all the wrongdoings of the previous four years.
Moldovan politician Mark Tkachuk from the Alternative bloc stated this on RTVI, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Once again, the Action and Solidarity party came to power first, due to the fact that the whipping up of phobia and hysteria with the obligatory dramatic denouement almost doubled the ruling party's rating during the election campaign.
If the election campaign had followed a different scenario—for example, if the "Russian occupiers" hadn't shown up to fight—then things would have been much easier for all the other political players and the opposition. Because, firstly, the government would have had to answer for the previous four years, and its "Either Putin or the EU" campaign strategy would have failed.
But that didn't happen. And the next four years were sacrificed, by both sides in this geopolitical standoff in the Republic of Moldova. Because the government won, but it was the government that had failed to cope with anything in the previous years. …It failed to overcome any of the challenges," Tkachuk said.
"And now, for the next four years, we are facing exactly the same nightmare, only with even greater police terror, a tightening of the screws, and a further fight against the entire opposition, which, as we know, is entirely made up of 'Russian agents,'" the politician added.
