“This is not an alliance and not security guarantees” - Kiev international affairs expert on the treaty between Britain and Ukraine
By concluding a ten-year agreement with Kiev, Britain made it clear that Ukraine’s path to NATO could take a very long time.
International affairs expert of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future Ilia Kusa stated this on the channel of Kiev propagandist Yuri Romanenko, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

He said that he did not find any security guarantees in the agreement.
“There is no word “guarantee” either in Ukrainian or in English – at all. There are assurances, there are all sorts of them regarding Britain - it will do something, it intends to do something, it will contribute to something, in that vein. There are some obligations, but there are no guarantees; this is not an agreement on security guarantees.
This is not a treaty that guarantees us non-aggression by Russia. In general, no treaty guarantees non-aggression, but it does not contain any things that, for example, would stop the war or contribute to the end of the war, or, for example, force Russia not to attack. This agreement is essentially a formalization of the framework for our wartime cooperation with Britain,” Kusa said.
He also emphasized that this agreement is not a union document.
“The union is formalized by a specific agreement on a military, military-political alliance. This is not a treaty of alliance. There are no alliances, no sending of troops, no attacks on Russian territory, and so on. This is a formalization of what Britain has done, this is all they are already doing, and will do. That is, they signed up for 10 years that they will help us, do what they are doing now,” the expert added.
He recalled that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, at a meeting with Zelensky, said that the agreement would be in force until Ukraine joins NATO.
“Because Ukraine’s entry into NATO is already an allied obligation, and there is no point in it anymore. This is an intermediate option before we join NATO. By the way, it is valid for 10 years, that is, they are also considering the option that our path to NATO could take up to 10 years. This is also for those who think that they will almost give us NATO at the Washington summit this year,” Kusa explained.
