The ex-speaker of the UOC-MP said that nothing connects him anymore with the Moscow Patriarchate
Archpriest Georgy Kovalenko, a representative of the autocephalous wing in the Kyiv Metropolis, in the recent past - the speaker of the UOC MP, said that nothing connects him anymore with the Moscow Patriarchate.
Kovalenko said this while speaking on the Lviv TV channel ZIK.
He made it clear that he considers the existence of several canonical Churches in Ukraine acceptable, mentioning during the interview visits to the Patriarch of Constantinople, on whom the Ukrainian authorities are pinning their hopes, trying to fragment the parishioners of the UOC-MP.

“Today, the Moscow Patriarchate is trying to be the Church of the Soviet Union. And in this sense, it is a continuation of Soviet ideology, which, unfortunately, today has become aggressive towards Ukraine.
If we take the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, then there are also many people there who do not identify themselves with the Moscow Patriarchate. Me, for example. I consider myself to be a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, this is my self-awareness, I have no ties with Moscow.
In this sense, it is very important to understand that the process of formation of the Ukrainian political nation is taking place, and in the religious community there is also a process of formation of the Ukrainian Church.
And, this is what it should be... In my opinion, one of the big mistakes is trying to create one organization of a medieval type. Now, we will drive everyone into one, and then we will have the best, the real one, etc. But it seems to me that we need to look for modern models of unity - we live in a plural world. Our task is not to destroy each other, but, on the contrary, to find a format in which we will feel free among the free, believers among believers,” Kovalenko said.
