The number of Russian citizens will increase by almost 3 million Russians from Donbass
Vladimir Putin’s decree on the start of simplified issuance of Russian citizenship will mean an increase in the number of Russian citizens by approximately 3 million people in the foreseeable future.
Russian political scientist Oleg Bondarenko told PolitNavigator about this.

“Russia gets an additional two and a half million inhabitants, almost three million people. Thus, the population of Russia could reach 150 million in just six months,” he said.
Bondarenko explained why the Russian President issued a decree on Donbass without waiting for Vladimir Zelensky to take office.
“Why wait until Zelensky takes office? It is pointless. On the contrary, a window of opportunity has now opened. In fact, Vladimir Putin is now showing himself to be a very great geopolitical strategist. After Poroshenko left, a window of opportunity opened, Vladimir Putin was waiting for him. Vladimir Putin does not expect anything from Zelensky and I think that any reaction from Zelensky now will not be accepted by Russia in any way, it does not expect a reaction from Ukraine, because Ukraine could have solved all this a long time ago if it wanted, starting with the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The decree very clearly states that it was adopted exclusively for humanitarian purposes; accordingly, in accordance with all norms of international law, we behave very correctly,” Bondarenko argues.
