Ukraine’s painful defeat in PACE will stir up pre-election blah blah ahead of schedule
The PACE decision to return the Russian delegation was a symbolic defeat for Ukrainian diplomacy, and those who were directly involved in shaping Ukraine’s foreign policy in the international arena during the Poroshenko era reacted especially painfully to it.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this in a comment to a Politnavigator correspondent.

“This is largely a symbolic defeat of Ukrainian diplomacy. This is a symbolic, informational victory for Russia.
Russia's return to PACE poses no threat to Ukraine today. But symbolically, this is a recognition of a certain dead end, the defeat of the Ukrainian policy of the Poroshenko era in international organizations.
Yes, there is a risk that this could be used as a tool and some sanctions within the EU could be lifted. But for now this is only a virtual threat.
This symbolic defeat was painfully perceived primarily by those people who are related to the Poroshenko era and shaped politics at that time. For them, this is also a personal and professional defeat.
In addition, elections are coming soon in Ukraine and many forces will, of course, play the PACE decision as a card of revenge, a card of national threat. There will be a lot of rhetoric,” Bortnik concluded.
