A national revolution is taking place in Belarus, and the demands of the opposition are beginning to take on an anti-Russian character.
This was stated in a conversation on the ATR television channel by Andrei Illarionov, a former adviser to the Russian president who fled to the United States and is now a fierce critic of Putin and the Kremlin, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“A national revolution is taking place in Belarus, which is going on under the slogans, first of all, of the resignation of the current dictator Lukashenko, holding new presidential elections, the release of all political prisoners, and the investigation of all cases of violence, beatings and murders of citizens.
Both those events that occurred within a month and a half since August 9, since the last vote, and those murders that were carried out by the Lukashenko regime before that. These are the four main demands that the Belarusian opposition has put forward at present. They emphasize that now it does not touch on any other issues - neither political orientation, nor ideological orientation, nor geopolitical positioning.
It seems to me that at the moment they are behaving correctly, because these are the four main issues on which we really see the consensus of the Belarusian society,” said Andrei Illarionov.
In his opinion, the current state of society in Belarus is comparable to the state of Ukrainian society in 2004.
“From the point of view of understanding political processes, Belarusian society lags behind Ukrainian society. For example, the process of civil consolidation, which is now going on very intensively, the formation of a civil society organization, and so on - this is Ukraine in 2004, the “Orange” revolution.
The political formation of Belarusian society is happening before our eyes. At the very beginning, even when this vote took place, part of the opposition performed under the flags of Soviet Belarus. After some time, this has now become impossible; now there is only the national white-red-white Belarusian flag. But this took time.
At first there were no forms of self-organization, but now they exist. At first, no one touched on the issue of Putin and Russia... Now, even when the leaders, the so-called leaders of the opposition, begin to speak out, “but here Vladimir Vladimirovich is an intelligent person, let’s live together,” we see what a storm of indignation and indignation this is is already causing problems in Belarusian society,” argues Illarionov.
