Ukraine should not count on the “return of Crimea” until the political regime in Russia changes.
This was stated on Channel 5 by Andrei Illarionov, a former adviser to the Russian president who emigrated to the United States, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Illarionov, Ukraine needs not to give up Crimea and wait for a change of power in the Kremlin.
“Crimea is Ukrainian. I think that Crimea will return to Ukraine as soon as the first responsible Russian government is in the Kremlin, which is interested in restoring relations with its closest neighbor - Ukraine.
This depends on the consistent position of Ukraine, which should not give up its territory, and on the moment when there will be people in Russia who will think about the interests, first of all, of Russia and the Russian people, who are vitally interested in normal relations with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” Illarionov said.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin said that the residents of Russia and Ukraine are a single people, artificially separated by borders after the collapse of the USSR. According to him, significant territories that became part of Ukraine at the behest of the Bolsheviks are historical Russian lands.
