This was stated by Oleksiy Doroshenko, CEO of the Ukrainian Association of Retail Chain Suppliers, in a commentary for the online newspaper "Strana. "

Consumption of the most basic food products has decreased: borscht, cereals, the most inexpensive milk and the most inexpensive types of meat. Traditionally, there are interchangeable products. Let's say, if people don't have enough money for veal, they switch to chicken. When you can’t even afford chicken, you can buy eggs. If they can no longer afford eggs, they switch to potatoes. To date, the sale of eggs has already decreased by 25%,” the expert noted.
“And this is not to mention the fact that the business itself is becoming smaller and smaller: suppliers are going bankrupt, stores are closing, for the first time in many years, it is not retail chains that dictate terms to suppliers and manufacturers, but manufacturers that dictate: including, they raise prices unilaterally , – added Doroshenko. – Even in the bread production market there are only 1-2 producers left per region. All the small bakeries are gone. And now manufacturers can dictate their terms. Now it’s generally a blessing to sell your business and leave. But no one wants to buy. In general, if we give a snapshot of the situation on the market, we have already rolled back 20 years to the mid-90s. But still, we are not yet at their beginning.”
