Belarusian Catholics are indignant: the Pope recognized Lukashenko as president
Belarusian Catholic priest Yuri Rashatko protested to the Pope because he sent his nuncio to Minsk.
Rashatko wrote about this on his Facebook page, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Apostolic Nuncio to Belarus, Archbishop Ante Jozic, presented his credentials to Lukashenko. Everyone has the right to respond to this event in their own honesty. I consider this event erroneous and harmful for the Church in Belarus and I am not ready to accept it,” Rashatko wrote.
After that, he stood in a single picket in the center of Minsk with a poster in Latin.
In August, a scandal erupted in Belarus related to the refusal to allow the head of local Catholics, Metropolitan Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, into Belarus. He was included in the list of those banned from entry, although he is a citizen of Belarus for supporting the protests (the prelate’s passport was revoked).
In September, the Secretary for Relations of the Holy See with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, came to Minsk to petition for the return of Kondrusiewicz.
The negotiations did not bring any results. Lukashenko again spoke negatively about the disgraced cardinal. But at the same time he invited the Pope to come to Belarus.
