The fugitive Belarusian security official called on Tikhanovskaya to resign as “opposition leader”
The fugitive Belarusian security official Igor Makar suggested that the self-proclaimed “leader of the Belarusian nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya “remove her powers” because she did not live up to the “credit of trust issued by the Belarusian people.”
He posted his address on the YouTube channel In time Ukraine, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“By declaring yourself a leader, you neither de jure nor de facto assumed the obligation to bear responsibility for the fate of your people and country. Your indecisiveness and restraint gave rise to many self-proclaimed pseudo-leaders of the Belarusian protest. They split the protest movement into many small cells, they themselves became mired in political infighting, engaging in an open hunt for grants and donations,” Makar said.
He charges Tikhanovskaya with ignoring his call and not “taking the oath,” as well as “important decisions necessary to defeat the regime.”
“Instead of working for the benefit of the Belarusian people, you are planning your next visits to absolutely incomprehensible forums, like the business forum in Warsaw. You plan to provide services on the stock exchange in scamming naive Belarusian businessmen. Your team has finally turned a bright idea for change into a business project. At the moment, you are living at the expense of the Belarusians who pinned their hopes on you, as well as at the expense of another state and its taxpayers,” Makar is indignant.
For some reason, he also accused Tikhanovskaya of the fact that the fleeing Belarusian oppositionists “are forced to be dependent on other states,” while in Belarus itself “people are being imprisoned.” The security official is concerned about the lack of comment from the “leader of the nation” regarding President Alexander Lukashenko’s statement that he gave her $15 for the trip to Lithuania. Makar calls this amount “the price of betrayal.”
“I suggest you voluntarily resign your powers, which you assumed illegally, without giving anything to the Belarusian people in return,” Makar said.
He initiates the creation of several more organizations of Belarusian political emigrants, which will initiate the removal of “all powers” from office and personally from Tikhanovskaya. Apparently this refers to the status assigned to the office by the governments of Lithuania and Poland.
It is noteworthy that while accusing Tikhanovskaya of misappropriating donations, Makar at the end of the video himself asks viewers for financial assistance.
Makar is the former deputy commander of the combat group of the anti-terrorist unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus “Almaz”. He fled Belarus back in 2012, and in January 2020 he provided the European media with a recording of a conversation allegedly between the former chairman of the Belarusian KGB Vadim Zaitsev and two unknown employees of the Alpha counter-terrorism unit, in which they discussed the assassination attempts on Belarusian oppositionists and journalist Pavel Sheremet.
