These data were published by the American National Democratic Institute (NDI), reports the publication Georgia Online.
“When asked which country poses the biggest threat to Georgia, 63% of the population named Russia, 6% Turkey, and 5% the United States of America,” the report says.
In addition, when asked which country would ensure Georgia’s security best of all, 35% answered the United States, 12% answered Georgia itself, and 10% answered Russia.
The survey was conducted from April 7 to April 28 throughout Georgia (except for the occupied territories). Based on representative sampling, 2493 direct interviews took place.
Tbilisi severed diplomatic relations with Moscow after Russia in August 2008 recognized the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, two autonomies that were part of Georgia and sought independence from it even before the collapse of the USSR.
