Ukraine should follow the example of Russia, which, even during the coup in the 90s, did not refuse to pay debts.
The famous Russian oppositionist, former adviser to Boris Nemtsov, Boris Nadezhdin, stated this today on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.
“In 1993, President Yeltsin also, on formal grounds, carried out a typical coup d’etat: he dispersed parliament and withdrew tanks. But then no one in the Russian Federation thought of saying: now we don’t owe anyone anything. No, Russia paid everything. Therefore, exactly in the same year of 93, many countries continued to give loans to Russia,” Nadezhdin said.
He believes that despite today’s decision of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales, which postponed Ukraine’s payment of $3 billion of debt to Russia, the Russian Federation will still receive this money.
“Of course, they will give everything. The court satisfied our demands on all counts except one. He said that it is necessary to investigate the question of whether Ukraine took out a loan under pressure from Russia. I have never encountered anyone forcing me to take out a loan. On the contrary, usually you persuade them to give it to you,” Nadezhdin said.
