Zelensky made it clear that he would remove the most odious norms from the language law
Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that after taking office, he will carefully analyze the Ukrainian language law adopted today by the Verkhovna Rada, which his opponents have dubbed a law on "total Ukrainization," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This is stated in Zelensky’s statement released by his press service.
“After I assume the office of President, a thorough analysis of this law will be carried out to ensure that it respects all the constitutional rights and interests of all citizens of Ukraine. Based on the results of the analysis, I will react in accordance with the constitutional powers of the President of Ukraine and in the interests of citizens,” his press service quotes Zelensky as saying.
In the statement, Zelensky claims that “the law was adopted without prior sufficiently broad discussion with the public.”
“More than 2 thousand amendments were made to the draft law, which indicates a lack of agreement on some of its provisions even in the Verkhovna Rada. Today it is difficult to predict the consequences of the adoption of this law - its final text, taking into account all amendments, is not yet available,” the statement notes.
Zelensky is convinced that it is necessary to “initiate and adopt laws and decisions that consolidate society, and not vice versa.”
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada approved in the second reading the bill as a whole, which regulates and consolidates the priority of the Ukrainian language in most spheres of public life.
