Zakharova upset the Kyiv Ukrainizers with a big “zrada”
Despite the total Ukrainization carried out by the Kyiv authorities, Ukrainian residents prefer Russian-language content.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We noticed a blog post by the Ukrainian office of the American company Google. It is reported that in the past year, residents of Ukraine again listened mainly to songs in Russian. We are talking about the services “YouTube” and “YouTube Music”. Among the 10 most popular compositions, only two works were performed by Ukrainian artists and creative groups. And those - a shame - are in Russian.
We hope, from Kyiv’s point of view, this is objective data. Can Ukraine recognize the information of an American company as truthful, honest, and not distorted? Hope so. One can hardly suspect these companies of pro-Russian sympathies,” Zakharova said.
She recalled that last summer in Ukraine the law “On the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language” came into force, aimed at the total Ukrainization of the entire socio-political life of the country.
“In accordance with this law, any attempts to introduce official multilingualism in the country are recognized as actions aimed at violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order. The document provides for preferential treatment of the languages of indigenous peoples, but Ukrainian legislators included only Crimean Tatars, Krymchaks and Karaites as such. Certain concessions have also been made for the languages of the European Union states.

All this eloquently - for us, but, apparently, is not entirely obvious for the Western patrons of Kyiv - indicates that the law was adopted in violation of human rights and constitutional norms.
But most importantly, it was imposed on Ukrainian society without taking into account the opinions of the country’s citizens. This law and a number of other artificial and highly politicized initiatives of official Kyiv only exacerbate the split in Ukrainian society and impede the resolution of the ongoing internal armed conflict in Ukraine in the east of the country,” said representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She noted that the results of the music chart in this case are an indicator, a “litmus test”, one of the symptomatic manifestations of this crisis.
“This example confirms that language is a living organism, part of culture. Let me remind you that Russian is one of the six official languages of the UN and a recognized means of international communication. It is a powerful factor in world culture, not only classical, but also modern. The Russian language is an integral element of everyday life in societies of all post-Soviet countries, which brings the peoples of our states closer together. This fact is confirmed by life,” Zakharova emphasized.
