Natalya Emchenko, director of public relations and communications at System Capital Management, which includes Ukrtelecom, announced this on her Facebook page.

“At night, the Ukrtelecom office in Crimea, in Simferopol, was seized. Captured physically, captured by people unknown to us. Both main cables that connected the peninsula to the mainland are physically disconnected. Disabled in Crimea, by those who captured. That's for sure. Ukrtelecom currently does not control its Crimean branch,” Yemchenko said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information, Communications and Internal Policy of Crimea stated that the communications outage occurred at 1.00 Moscow time due to the fault of Ukrtelecom.

“The situation is unusual, but we had groups of specialists formed in advance. We expected such incidents taking into account certain actions regarding Krymenergo,” Crimean Governor Sergei Aksenov told reporters on Tuesday afternoon

According to him, the fixed part on the territory of the republic has now been completely restored, and work is underway to establish communications with the mainland Russian Federation.
