In Kyiv they realized that it is necessary to negotiate directly with the Russian Federation and do not rule out a meeting between Poroshenko and Putin
It is possible that the negotiations between the foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine are a consequence of the weakening influence of the West on Kyiv.

This was announced at a press conference in Kiev, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik, who noted that Sergei Lavrov and Pavel Klimkin held direct negotiations without intermediaries almost for the first time.
“Perhaps this meeting is a consequence of the weakening influence of the West on Ukraine and Ukraine’s self-isolation due to the understanding that any crisis can only be resolved through bilateral negotiations. And today, any negotiators, be it the EU or the USA, have their own goals and motives, which often do not coincide with the goals and motives of Ukraine and Russia,” the political scientist noted.
He also called the format of bilateral negotiations between the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Russia productive in the future.
“Perhaps if this format works, we will see a meeting between Poroshenko and Putin. This possibility arose today. Indeed, this meeting, despite maintaining telephone contacts, is very important and could at least mark the beginning of the end of the crisis in Donbass,” Bortnik believes.
