Representatives of the enterprise at a press conference clarified that those who occupied the facility introduced themselves as fighters of the Azov battalion and referred to permission received from the chief of police in the Kyiv region, Vadim Troyan, also an Azov fighter in the recent past.
In fact, we are talking about the seizure of the enterprise’s sports complex. Last spring, this facility was considered by the authorities as a possible reception point for refugees, or a training base for ATO participants. Now they decided to carry out their plan through capture.
“On November 22, a group of people with a search warrant, together with investigative officers, entered the territory of the enterprise. The sanction was signed by Mr. Vadim Troyan, head of the main department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kyiv region. At the same time, Azov fighters allegedly provided security to operational employees. After this, the guards were asked to leave the territory
There are 100-150 armed people left at the enterprise, who supposedly ensure further operational actions,” said Andrei Nagrebelny, a representative of the owner of ATEK.
“On November 22, security called me and said that police officers had entered our territory with a search,” says Larisa Ilyenko, director of the ATEK sports complex. “They let them through, but when I got there, they didn’t let me into the territory.” I heard that they were breaking down the doors at the sports complex and offered to give me the keys so they wouldn’t break them. My guards' weapons were confiscated. One of the Azov employees rushed towards me and my guard with a knife and simply threw me and the guard out of the sports complex. During the search, we were not allowed into the territory; all the children who were at training were asked to leave.
I know from the tenants that now about 100-150 people are based on the territory of the sports complex with Kalashnikov assault rifles and ammunition - about 80 boxes were delivered...
People are armed, the police are not taking any measures. As far as I understand, Mr. Troyan, under the guise of a search, brought an armed group that is stationed in the sports complex...
And now in the center of Kyiv, in the sports complex, there are strange armed people. Nearby there is a residential area and a school.”
“The plant owns 27 hectares of territory, with railway tracks and the possibility of placement behind a high fence. Across the road there is a factory that has an airstrip (Antonov)... The seizure of the ATEK plant corresponds to our information that factories in Kyiv will be seized to form bases for the preparation of some actions. It is not clear which ones... It is not clear why this situation arose, why the authorities do not react to such actions,” said Vladimir Volkov, a representative of the Ukrainian military organization.
He also said that it had already been clarified that the armed people who seized the plant had no relation to Azov, which was disbanded as a unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and transferred to the National Guard. Therefore, “Azov” did not have the authority to act as a security escort for the police.
“We couldn’t find out who these people were and where they came from - they didn’t let us into the plant territory, they didn’t give us any comments. As a career intelligence officer, I spoke with the Minister of Defense and informed the head of the Union of Officers that such a scenario for the seizure of industrial facilities is a bad idea in the current state of war. These are strategic platforms from which incomprehensible actions can now be carried out. We ask the president to take control of all strategic objects in Kyiv,” said Vladimir Volkov.
