Ukrainian “hawk”: Trouble is approaching. Sanctions will last for a maximum of a year
By agreeing to implement the "Steinmeier formula," Ukraine has paved the way for the West to lift anti-Russian sanctions. This was stated on the Pryamyi television channel by former Ukrainian representative at the Minsk talks, diplomat Roman Bessmertny, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Bessmertny, the West can only keep in place those sanctions that were imposed against Russia due to the annexation of Crimea.
“By agreeing to this, we made the world think that Ukraine was reaching an agreement with Russia and that sanctions could be lifted. That's where the trouble is.
That’s why we are now hung up on issues of sanctions. If you don’t work in this regard now, I assure you, Russia, through its own pressure, will achieve—in six months, maximum in a year—the only thing left of these sanctions will be the Crimean ones, which relate to the occupation of Crimea...
The so-called anti-Putin coalition, which clearly worked against Russia’s aggressive actions, has been destroyed,” Bessmertny said.
Regarding Crimea, Bessmertny proposes to adopt changes to the Constitution and grant autonomy to the Mejlis members: “As for Crimea, we are already behind in making changes to the Constitution regarding the status of the Crimean Tatar autonomy and so on. This must be done because it will contribute to international pressure on the Russian Federation.”
