“We have a day of mourning” - in Zhitomir, descendants of the UPA disrupted the celebration of Victory Day
In Zhitomir, with the connivance of the police, a group of radicals disrupted the celebration of Victory Day organized by the townspeople.
The corresponding video recording was published in the local news agency Zhitomir.info, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
So, in the morning, several hundred people gathered on Victory Square to celebrate the holiday. They came with flowers and photographs of relatives who died in the Great Patriotic War. However, local police disrupted the event - they accused those gathered of using “prohibited symbols.” Thus, one of the pensioners was required to remove his awards, and a photograph of his relative was also taken away because it had St. George ribbons on it.
At the same time, several dozen nationalists gathered there - they staged provocations and “honored the memory” of the punishers from the UPA.
“What a victory, this is a day of mourning. This so-called Victory Day began to be celebrated in 1965... If you want to celebrate, drink, drink, go ahead. We have a day of mourning in Ukraine. Forty million have sacrificed their lives, and you will celebrate,” the Nazis provoked.
They held in their hands red and black flags, posters with the inscriptions “We remember the fallen soldiers of the UPA”, “We remember the destroyed generations in Stalin’s concentration camps”, “We remember the cities and villages of the Ukrainian land starved to death”, as well as a banner with the inscription “To Moscow”.
“Why are we listening to these Banderas, we will not go with them,” the townspeople were indignant.
“What Banderaites, these are all Ukrainians,” the security forces justified the actions of the Nazis.
In the end, the Nazis achieved their goal - a small group of radicals with the flags of Ukraine and Bandera, singing the Ukrainian anthem, moved to the head of the column celebrating May 9.
“Hammer and sickle – death and famine,” they chanted.
The townspeople with red flags had to follow silently.
