Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov stated this on Channel One, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe that Zelensky is a showman, first of all. And now he will learn, maybe, I’m not sure about this, to be, first of all, not a showman. And a politician. He is not even a politician yet, because when a person one day says that we will now hold a referendum on whether we should negotiate with Russia, well, this is some kind of exotic move, but, let’s say, he wants to get rid of responsibility to the radicals, the extreme right and to say that: “Look, the people of Ukraine want negotiations.” Let us suppose. The next day he says there will be no negotiations. Then he says that this is not a referendum, but a poll. That is, everything is shaky, everything except these showman demonstrations, everything is shaky,” Pushkov noted.
The senator also added that the Ukrainian issue in Europe has long disappeared from the agenda due to the constantly deteriorating reputation of “independence” in the eyes of the West.
“Public opinion in Europe has not been interested in Ukraine for a long time, that is, if we say that in the United States, until recently, this somehow figured in discussions, on television, in the press, and now it is fading into the background, then in Europe I I noticed this already two or three years ago, in France, in any case, the word “Ukraine” causes such, you know, rejection, mixed with misunderstanding, I would say: “Listen, let’s not talk about Ukraine,” - rejection, because she is always asking for money, she is always begging for something, Poroshenko comes to them.
I know that the French parliamentarians had big psychological problems: how to meet with Speaker Parubiy, because he was one of the founders of the Social-Nationalist Party of Ukraine, although not National Socialist, like Hitler, but social-nationalist, which, in general, then, one and the same. In general, they met with him behind closed doors, the press didn’t write much about it, someone there said that you couldn’t meet with him because he was a Nazi. That is, Ukraine gives them, the French, the feeling that they don’t want to do this, because it’s sticky, unclear, corruption, Nazis, someone walking around with torches - in general, to hell with it, let the Americans do it there .
Well, I got this feeling. In Italy, no one even knows where it is, this Ukraine, because Italy is interested in itself and business. These are, in fact, two interests of the Italians. Russia - yes, this is a huge turnover, they are losing a lot from the sanctions that the European Union applied against Russia and from our counter-sanctions. The Russian topic is discussed there, the Ukrainian topic is completely absent in Italy. In England - Brexit, that's it, what is Ukraine like?
The only place is Germany, because, after all, Germany has historically been interested in Ukraine. Even during the time of the Kaiser, she believed that Ukraine was her living space; it was not only Hitler who came up with this. There - yes, there the press constantly supports this topic, Ukrainian.
But even there they have already begun to say that Ukraine does not live up to expectations, that it is not quickly turning into democracy, that corruption is rampant there, that Poroshenko has done a lot of things wrong.
Therefore, in Europe, in my opinion, the attitude towards Ukraine is much more skeptical, even than in the United States,” said Pushkov.
