“He worries me. My Russian friends, and I only communicate with those who consider Crimea to be Ukraine, say: “Why are you attacking Navalny?” But I see how everything will be if Navalny becomes president of the Russian Federation. That is, he may withdraw troops from Donbass, but not immediately. He voices the reason that this is costing Russia too much in terms of money, but he does not call what is happening Russian military aggression or a war of conquest. He doesn’t speak out about the foreign agenda at all,” says Sentsov.
He emphasizes that Navalny never renounced the words he said several years ago: “Crimea is not a sandwich to be passed back and forth.”
At the same time, Sentsov admits that in the future Navalny could lead Russia, “become a handshake, travel to Europe and receive universal admiration.”
“Russians say to me: “Well, don’t you understand that he can’t say something like that now, but he will definitely give up Crimea.” Why did they decide that? Russia is a prison of nations, after the revolution and the collapse of the USSR it simply decreased in size, but there are enough separatist sentiments everywhere. I was in prison in Yakutia, there are very strong separatist sentiments there, as in other regions of Russia. If a Russian politician gives up Crimea, the Kuril Islands or Koenigsberg, he will lose everything. I think Navalny understands this,” summed up Sentsov.
