“Tank cannibalism” reigns in the Ukrainian army
The Verkhovna Rada, instead of pre-election shows with voting for NATO, could deal with the needs of the army, which is in critical condition in the context of the conflict in Donbass.
Former adviser to the head of the SBU and ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the VO "Svoboda" Yuriy Mikhalchishin stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to ask, really - rhetorically, how many votes do you need to gather in parliament so that today the staffing of a motorized rifle company at the front line of defense would be 100-110 people on staff, and not as it is - 40-50 people? How many more votes need to be made in parliament to finally drill a new tank gun in Ukraine? Our tanks are now equipped according to the principle that from three old T-64s they make one combat-ready one. “Tank cannibalism,” this phenomenon is called by experts, when they twist the chassis from one tank into a heap, the turret from a second, and the cannon from a third,” said the former Tyahnibokov member.
“The problem is not only insufficient funding - we may soon lose engineers who are capable of designing such a gun, putting it into production, mastering it, setting up production and delivering such tanks to the troops. These are NATO standards, and I would like us to strive for them,” Mikhalchyshyn added.
