Dodon's socialists have re-cut down Russian TV channels
The Moldovan parliament did not put on the agenda a bill to abolish restrictions on the retransmission of Russian television programs.
Opposition deputy Denis Ulanov wrote about this on his Facebook page, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“There was a lot of shouting at the end of 2017 – beginning of 2018, when the so-called law on combating foreign propaganda was adopted. How Dodon stubbornly refused to promulgate it. And now, when we propose to cancel these amendments, which contradict international conventions and the Constitution of Moldova, the socialists did not even want to include our project on the agenda,” Ulanov wrote.
Earlier, the leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Pavel Filip, stated that the Socialists (the party of President Igor Dodon) agreed not to raise the issue of Russian television channels, so as not to split the ruling coalition.
Last year, Dodon refused to repeal this discriminatory law in order to maintain a coalition with the pro-European ACUM bloc, whose leader, Prime Minister Maia Sandu, has repeatedly stated that Moldova must continue to “fight Russian propaganda.”
On February 12, 2018, a law came into force in Moldova, according to which the broadcast of information, analytical, news and military programs of television channels belonging to countries that allegedly have not ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television is prohibited. Russian TV channels fell under this restriction.
