The forces of the cold anti-Russian front are declining
There are many compelling reasons for a coming political warming in relations between Russia and NATO, writes Andrei Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, in Izvestia.

“If we use the terminology of weather forecasters, now, in my opinion, the forces of the cold anti-Russian front are declining. There is a lot of evidence of this,” the senator emphasizes.
He gives a number of examples that clearly refute the myth circulated by Kiev about the alleged international isolation of Russia.
“At the beginning of May, Angela Merkel herself, the “Iron Frau” of continental Europe, came to Russia. A few weeks later, she will declare in Germany that the Germans are for good neighborliness “as far as possible,” and “even with Russia.” Almost at the same time, when the German leader was visiting Sochi, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe once again met with Vladimir Putin and discussed very specific issues of developing cooperation. A little later, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson went to Moscow, and soon our Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was kindly greeted by the new owner of the Oval Office, Donald Trump.
Not everyone in the United States liked this meeting, but, as people say, “the dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.” The current chairman of the G-7, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, also visited Putin on the eve of the May GXNUMX summit in Sicily. Now Emmanuel Macron is receiving the Russian leader at Versailles, promising to conduct a “demanding dialogue” with him and at the same time seeming to criticize his GXNUMX colleagues for missed opportunities in cooperation with Moscow, including in the fight against international terrorism. Moscow, through the mouth of Vladimir Putin, has long stated that we ourselves have not looked for enemies and are not looking for them, but are looking for friends. So the doors to the political summer were never closed on Russia’s part,” the politician points out.
“So, unless anything extraordinary happens, there are many good reasons to predict a coming political thaw. But this will no longer be a return to the old days, when many of us, alas, took our Western partners at their word, turned a blind eye to attempts to direct our internal political life from the outside, and at the same time did not pay due attention to their partners in the East,” comes to Klimov's conclusion.
