Kyiv, February 03 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – The majority of the population of the Russian Federation did not feel the consequences of the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the West.

Moscow opposition political strategist Stanislav Belkovsky made this admission in an interview with the Kyiv weekly Focus, answering the question whether the current economic situation in Russia is painful for its citizens.

“It is painful for the elites, which is obvious,” notes the publication’s interlocutor. – For the majority of people – not yet. And Putin expects that he will be able to hold out for at least two years on total propaganda and forceful control over the country. And then the situation may change for the better as a result of a change in Western leaders, the departure of Barack Obama and Angela Merkel, the understanding that sanctions against Russia harm the European Union itself, the build-up of the pro-Russian lobby in Europe, and so on.”
