The US is helping to attack the Russian Church in Ukraine
The United States will take part in a strike against the positions of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
The weekly “Mirror of the Week”, considered influential in Kyiv, writes about this today.

“There is reason to think that our church situation has come to the attention of Washington, which has considerable influence on the Ecumenical Patriarch and the entire Greek Church. That is, to the very episcopate that will decide the issue of Ukrainian autocephaly at its Synod in May. The emergence of Ukrainian “canonical territory” is the damage that Washington is capable of inflicting on Moscow through the hands of others and without visible consequences for itself,” the publication writes.
At the same time, “Zerkalo Nedeli” admits that part of the Western world will oppose such church reform.
“We will have to overcome colossal pressure from Moscow and those “Western partners” who will be mobilized by it “in connection with the violation of freedom of religion” and “to protect the church from state interference.” Ukraine risks getting into a conflict akin to the one that broke out after the adoption of the Law “On Education” – they “targeted” the Russian language, but ended up with an international scandal,” the publication writes.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, this week Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the Verkhovna Rada turned to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew with a request to grant the Ukrainian Church autocephaly on the basis of the schismatic UOC-KP and UAOC.
If Bartholomew satisfies the initiative of the Ukrainian authorities, he will violate canonical rules by recognizing schismatics and invading the territory of another local Church - the Russian Orthodox Church, to which Ukraine belongs.
