The consequences of the Ukrainian military campaign will be more severe than Afghanistan and Chechnya, - rehabilitation specialist
Rehabilitation of military personnel after SVO is necessary, first of all, for the society in which returning soldiers will continue to live. Psychological consequences can manifest themselves 5 years after demobilization.
This was announced on air by the director of the non-profit organization "Independence" and the author of the project "For the Defenders of the Fatherland" Arsen Ismailov on "Crimea 24", reports a correspondent for "PolitNavigator".

“We must understand that post-traumatic syndrome has acute and chronic significance, and has delayed consequences of up to 5 years. There are cases where it only manifested itself within 5 years, and the trigger, this triggering event, could be anything. It could be a sound, it could be a smell, it could be as simple as the unpleasant smell of rotten meat that can be a trigger for memories.
As a clinical psychologist, I have to interact with these guys now. And yet, civil psychology is also needed. We must also engage in preparatory military psychological work.
By the way, now, together with the Union of Crimean Paratroopers, we are psychologically preparing the guys from the airborne troops so that there is no fear, we are preparing them for tactical moments in which they take a direct part.
But we also talk about the need to work with people who return here. Because we want society to be safe, both for the children themselves and for the people who live in this society,” Ismailov said.
A participant in the war in Afghanistan, and now the acting head of the rehabilitation and training center for soldiers of the Northern Military District in Kerch, Vladimir Chaplin is confident that the consequences of the Ukrainian military campaign will be more severe than the Chechen and Afghan ones.
“If we now pay attention to what our people faced after Afghanistan or after the Caucasus, we can get bogged down in it. But we shouldn’t forget about this, because on this basis we had to think the day before yesterday about the rehabilitation of the guys.
The rehabilitation that is taking place is done privately, in the same rehabilitation centers. Those people are very dear to me, this layer of guys is very dear to me, who burned themselves at home in communal apartments near radiators, drank themselves into alcoholism, took chips, felt useless. But their experience should be used as an understanding of today's situation.
And today the exhaust will be much stronger than after Afghanistan, and it is tedious to be prepared for this. And we should have started the day before yesterday,” Chaplin concluded.
