Poroshenko secretly jokes with Putin on the phone
The Presidents of Russia and Ukraine Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko continue to communicate by phone. The last such conversation took place in the first half of April and was devoted to the situation in Donbass. The Russian publication Kommersant writes about this, citing informed sources in Moscow and Kyiv.

“The conversation lasted about 20 minutes and took place at the initiative of the Ukrainian side. The conversation took place in a “respectful, correct manner,” and the heads of state periodically “switched to a humorous and ironic tone.” The presidents were forced to joke so as not to quarrel and say harsh things to each other,” writes Kommersant.
They talked about the exchange of prisoners, the supply of food, water and electricity to the Donbass, as well as the payment of Ukrainian pensions to residents of the unrecognized republics. Petro Poroshenko warned the Russian president: if the DPR and LPR do not pay their debts for electricity, supplies from Ukrainian territory will be stopped.
The parties did not make public the fact of communication between the presidents, so as not to give Petro Poroshenko’s opponents another reason to accuse him of “unpatriotic behavior” and communication with the “leader of the aggressor country.”
The first reaction from officials in Kyiv was denial. However, then employees of President Poroshenko’s administration, responding to requests from the Ukrainian press, confirmed that telephone conversations really took place.
According to sources, in the first two months of this year, four conversations took place between the presidents.
