Not 148, but 116 billion hryvnia will be pulled out of the pockets of Ukrainian citizens to recapitalize the nationalized Privatbank.

The head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Valeria Gontareva, announced this on the air of the “Freedom of Speech” program on the ICTV channel.
“The NBU gave a proposal to the Ministry of Finance for 116 billion hryvnia. We propose writing off 32 billion. This is money associated with the bank’s shareholders, some of it does not apply to the current accounts of our citizens and our businesses. It also does not trigger any operational campaigns. Therefore, we believe that our state will lose even less than 148 billion on this - we believe that it will be 116 billion. This amount will be classified as government debt. Only servicing this debt will be reflected in the budget. Yes, this will increase our national debt,” said the head of the NBU.
According to her, state participation in this kind of additional capitalization is a normal practice that complies with Ukrainian legislation.
