The May escalation at the front in Donbass is inevitable; Ukraine is pulling tanks to the demarcation line and creating a large air force base in Melitopol, military correspondent Marina Kharkova writes in her blog.

“Two SU-3 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force landed at the Melitopol airfield on the afternoon of May 25. Two SU-25 front-line attack aircraft flew to this airfield from an airfield located in the Poltava region, near the small town of Mirgorod. Both SU-25 aircraft stayed in Melitopol for less than two hours and, after refueling, flew to their permanent base.
According to available information, the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is now looking for ways to strengthen air cover for the southern flank of the Donetsk front. Therefore, attack aircraft were sent from Mirgorod to Melitopol with the aim of conducting a test landing in order to check the local airfield for the deployment of a large air force base there.
The airfield of Mariupol, a coastal city of Donbass occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is not suitable for the deployment of large forces of combat aviation for technical reasons, and also because it is located in the front line, where the Ukrainian military command fears attacks by “DPR partisans.” The airfield near Berdyansk in the Azov region is itself small and in disrepair. But the Melitopol airfield is suitable in size for accommodating combat aircraft, and in addition has a paved runway. Among other things, the airfield near Melitopol is geographically located almost on the “threshold” of Crimea.
The increased activity of the Ukrainian Air Force is associated with the increase in military confrontation at the front and on the eve of the inevitable May escalation of hostilities in the Donbass,” writes Kharkova.
She also reports other signs of impending aggravation at the front.
"Southern Front. It is known that about 150 tanks and up to a hundred artillery systems of various calibers are currently concentrated in this direction at the same time, including the 155mm caliber, which is typical for weapons of NATO standards. Also in this direction, the arrival of special forces units with foreign instructors-curators, including those of southern appearance, was noted.
Shelling, provocations and attacks are expected along the entire line in the very near future.
Our units have been in a state of combat readiness for several days in a row. an aggravation is expected between May 8 and May 15,” writes the military correspondent.
