Lavrov encouraged his Belarusian colleague to attack Western ambassadors
Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei called nonsense information from the opposition media that the head of the State Control of Belarus Ivan Tertel behaved aggressively towards Western diplomats at a meeting dedicated to the arrest of presidential candidate Viktor Babariko.
Makei stated this at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I would like to use an undiplomatic expression – absolute nonsense,” Mackay began.
“Please, we are used to it,” Lavrov supported him.
Encouraged, the Belarusian minister continued in the same spirit.
“I don’t know who could say such nonsense. If diplomats consider invitations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the provision of such information to them as aggressiveness on the part of government bodies, then the question arises whether the diplomat is here, whether he is doing his job correctly,” Makei noted.
He admitted that at yesterday’s meeting he himself reacted sharply to a remark made by one of the diplomats.
“It is important for us that foreign diplomats accredited here should send objective information to the capitals of their states, based on the words of both opponents of the government and the government itself. It doesn’t matter when information is taken only from opposition sources and presented as an objective picture,” Makei complained.
He promised that his department would continue the practice of informing Western diplomats.
“If someone views this as an aggressive aspect, then they don’t have to come,” the Belarusian minister concluded.
